The Trick for Treating Dry Skin You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet? Calendula Oil

The Trick for Treating Dry Skin You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet? Calendula Oil

When the dry skin on your scalp, elbows, and knees is driving you crazy, you might opt for buttery cream and salves, but our go-to for ultra-flakey skin is a potent oil-infusion that penetrates deeply to nourish and hydrate at the foundational level: calendula oil.

With its sunny hue, pleasantly light fragrance, and intense hydrating properties, luxurious calendula-infused oil adds a soothing touch to any holistic skincare routine as it goes right to work replenishing your skin.

You May Be Wondering...What Exactly Is Calendula Oil?

Calendula is an edible flower that grows on the Calendula officinalis plant. It’s native to Europe, Asia, and the Mediterranean, and these striking flower petals range from a vibrant yellow to a deep, rich orange. They’ve been valued throughout history for their medicinal and sacred properties, so what’s the secret?

These flowers aren’t just beautiful and healthy to eat—applied topically, they deeply hydrate, nourish, and beautify the skin. Rich in antioxidants like lutein and beta-carotene, linoleic acid, calendic acid, and terpenes, this flower oil does not disappoint.

You can find calendula oil in its pure, extremely sticky form of flower resin or you can opt for a lovely calendula oil infusion, which is our absolute favorite way to apply it because it leaves your skin silky smooth. Sadly though, not every product out there actually contains much calendula—and some may be made with synthetic ingredients that are harmful to your skin and your health.

When shopping for calendula oil, look for a high quality infusion like Valentia’s that’s made from only organic calendula petals and sunflower oil (as opposed to olive or coconut oil), and that’s cruelty-free, ethically sourced, and doesn’t contain any preservatives, GMOs, artificial colors, parabens, sulfates, or other dangerous additives. It’s also a good idea to look for dark amber glass packaging to keep your oil fresh for up to three years.
